A useful website which lets you find postcodes in the UK.  Click on the Free Postcode Finder.  Gives you five free searches per day.  Look for links that invite you to 'Try it- find a post code'.

xe.com is a useful currency converter from more or less any currency in the world  to any other. 
worldwidemetric.com  converts length, weight, pressure, volume  and temperature.  Both sites are simple to use.

A useful site for finding alternative telephone numbers to 0870, 0845 and other non geographical numbers.  Click on Search for alternative numbers and fill in. Most but not all numbers get a result on this site.  Small ads appear.

Two useful sites which give you a street map for any given address.  Search with post code for best results. There is a zoom in and out function and a printer-friendly command.  Google maps gives you satellite view and street level view. Some moving ads appear in Bing maps.

Useful site for checking the time around the world. See calendars any year and lots of other time related calculations.  Great if you have family living overseas.

A good weather site, check local weather or weather anywhere in the world and long range forecasts.  Look for the slot where you type in the name of a city or post code. Some ads appear.

The phone directory online! Two sites to find people, phone numbers and addresses.  Maps showing the street address, businesses and other services. Best used for addresses, and phone numbers ie like a phone directory. Small unobtrusive ads.

www.royalmail.com
All post-offices services including parcel rates, post code finder and track and trace.  You can even print out on line postage stamps. There are certain services that you will need to register for.  Registration is simple.

www.wikipedia.org
An online encyclopaedia where you can search for more or less anything.  Look for the Search slot at the bottom and type in key words.  Gives information and pictures, good reference tool for helping with crossword clues or the grandchildren's homework!

www.dvla.gov.uk
The DVLA's home site. Tax your car online here if you can't get to a post office.  Clearly laid out site though you may need to click through several categrories to get to what you want.


www.direct.gov.uk
A good guide to public services offered by national, local and county council government offices.  Find out about your local library, health services, MP, benefits in retirement and many other things.  A large site but clearly laid out.

www.citizensadvice.org.uk
The Citizens Advice Centre's own website.  Find your local office.  Also contains lots of articles with advice on legal, money and other problems. Large site but clearly laid out.  Go straight to the search slot at the top of the page to find what you want.
